Lithium ion batteries are more powerful and provide more energy for high consumption than traditional lead–acid batteries. They can be discharged with up to 80 % compared to the traditional 30% to 50% without damaging the battery and are charged extremely fast, in down to 50 minutes for a 12V – 100Ah lithium ion battery –compared to 8-10 hours for a lead battery.

The integrated Battery Management System (BMS) ensures a long lifetime, safe handling – and high-accuracy State of Charge (SOC) calculations.  
 

Lithium battery packs are build of a number of individual lithium cells which must all maintain the same voltage for the battery to stay functional.

Therefore, all lithium ion batteries from Clayton Power have an integrated Battery Management System (BMS) that automatically balances the cells during charge, discharge and in idle mode.

The BMS monitors the voltage and temperature of each lithium ion cell which influences the functionality of the battery.

Our BMS includes an Electronic MOSFET based safety breaker, with no mechanical weaknesses, to prevent short circuits and ensure a safe and reliable use.
 
Just plug the lithium battery in, and you’re ready to go.

Powerful lithium batteries

A Lead-acid systems capacity is often downscaled since it requires twice as much capacity as an equivalent lithium battery system.

As a result, the lead acid system is often not fully charged, and is charged/discharged too quickly, inevitably leading to degrading of the system. With a lithium ion battery based power system - you will not experience this problem.

Fast charging

Charge a 12V – 100Ah lithium ion battery in down to 50 minutes – compared to 8-10 hours for a traditional lead battery.

Long lifetime of 3000 charge/discharge cycles

Lithium batteries have a uniquely long lifetime of 3000 charge/ discharge cycles, that is more than six times longer than AGM or GEL batteries. The lithium ion batteries are compact and very light – by switching to lithium you may reduce the weight of your applications significantly. 

Efficient charging from an alternator

Charging a lithium ion battery from an alternator is both efficient and fast compared to lead-acid batteries. It just requires a CDR Battery Separator or Converter between the starter battery and lithium ion battery.

The Battery Management System (BMS) monitors in- and output currents at all times.

The BMS knows that the difference between a fully charged and nearly empty cell is only 0,125V.

The BMS knows that the difference between a lithium cell in idle mode and one discharged with 0,5C is only 0,2V.

The BMS knows that values depend on time and temperature.


The BMS uses complex algorithms to calculate high-accurate State of Charge (SOC) levels.

Through accurate SOC calculations the BMS protects the cells against deep discharge.

Active cell balancing does not guarantee balanced charging of individual cells – the BMS from Clayton Power does.

The BMS interrupts charging before any of the cells is overcharged.


The BMS monitors internal cell temperatures and detects critical changes.

The BMS automatically reacts to shorts by turning off and restarting to prevent hazardous situations.

Most accidents involving lithium batteries happen because of overcharging – the BMS from Clayton Power prevents overcharging.
